Trying to catch the sun with the hands
I do not know in English but in Spanish we have this expression that somehow becomes very appropriated to recent thoughts I have had. I have been working on the movement of the sun and how shadows are cast. They may seem like very banal questions, but I have realized how used we are to the most wonderful and unexplainable phenomenon of the world in which we live.
When an undergrad student at the school of architecture I was thought how to calculate shadows with perspective methods, and I guess for a lot of people it is the way to study how the sun relates to the projects we built. I am fascinated with shadows and the miraculously way in which they are cast. I came to the conclusion that it is something that we will never fully understand.
Comparing my drawings of shadows to the experience of them I realized that these methods, like the projection of shadows in a sun study, only make us believe we understand the world and lead us to loose our capacity to wonder about nature.
indeed I think with out realizing we believe we can catch the sun with our hands.
I created this blog with the intention of having my friends updated about things that are important in my life. However I always find them too irrelevant or too private to be posted.

ideas sueltas sobre arquitectura
Me pregunto por la practica del arquitecto, y por el papel de nuestra profesion hoy en dia. Cual puede ser el valor del arquitecto en la practica actualmente?
Es cierto que las ciudades no las construyen hoy en su mayoria los arquitectos sino las potencias economicas, sin embargo, tambien es cierto que el oficio de arquitecto es especificamente moderno, nace con la modernidad y diria yo muere con la modernidad.
Que queda entonces de nuestro oficio? Somos constructores o disenadores? O tal vez ninguna de las dos…
Porque insistir en tener escuelas de arquitectura si son los sectores financieros y los promotores de vivienda los que se encargan en gran parte de la construccion de la ciudad?
Tambien me pregunto por la apatia politica de mis colegas. Siendo tradicionalmente la arquitectura un arte politico y religioso, porque no son estas consideraciones contemporaneas del arquitecto?
Despreciamos la historia y nos deslumbra la innovacion…
Me parece importante solamente mencionar que vivimos en el mundo que hemos construido, no en uno impuesto por una fuerza supernatural, y por lo mismo tenemos en las manos el poder de construir el mundo en le que viviremos el dia siguiente. Si no construimos el mundo en el que queremos vivir, seguiremos viviendo en el mundo que otros construyen mientras nosotros vemos la vida pasar.
Tiene esta construccion algo que ver con la arquitectura, no lo se, tal vez…
Tambien pienso el el texto de Ricoeur que dice que toda construccion es narracion. Y questiono la valoracion de arquitectura sobre construccion. Si la diferencia es que arquitectura es el lugar donde la vida acontece, toda la construccion es arquitectura, y creo que esta preposicion tiene un valor etico mas fuerte que la anterior. Queire decir que no se trata de buscar aquel secreto que diferencia la arquitectura de la construccion, sino que todo lo que se construya hara parte de la vida de algun hombre, y de el cuidado con el que esta construccion se lleve a cabo, y de la reflexion que sobre esta se haga, depende la calidad de una parte de la vida de alguien.

i was working on a school presentation, and got to a point where my mind became blocked. i felt i had gotten to where i should stop. So i consulted my horacle, and this is what it said:
